The 2026 Met Gala is set for this Monday May 4th. From co-chairs to dress codes, here is everything you need to know about fashion's biggest event of the year.
What is the Met Gala?
Started in 1948 by Eleanor Lambert in New York City, it was initially named "The Costume Institute Gala". The event was started as a charity gala for New York City elites and over time it has evolved into the institution it is today. Celebrities, fashion designers, business moguls, millionaires, influencers etc. are invited from every corner of the world to partake in the event. What started out as a charity event now defines generations of fashion and design. It is held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan on the first Monday of May.

Anna Wintour, Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Venus Williams, Zoe Kravitz, Chloe Malle, Sabrina Carpenter, and more.
What is this year's theme and dress code?
Every year a dress code and theme are chosen for the Met, this years being theme being "Costume Art" and the dress code being "Fashion is Art". If you're curious about what this may entail, think of your favorite eras in art history. Impressionism, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo eras are all expected to make an appearance at this years Met Gala. Here are some examples of what we could possibly see on this year's red carpet.
